Time to review this past week of college football

If you don’t think your boy is going to be seeing the new Tron movie the first weekend its out, you’re playing yourself.
Quick tangent, I was out on a date and told my lady friend that I got emotionally excited when I first saw the trailer and will definitely be seeing the movie the first day it came out. She gave me a strange look. Welcome to my world sister!

Other thoughts from this past week:
-Everyone has been talking about Boise State being the “BCS-buster” but I’ve been on the TCU train for the entire season. The Horned Frogs have the defense to contend with any team in the nation and the offense has become a revelation, especially in the victory over Utah. I had my doubts about Andy Dalton but the quarterback has been outstanding all season and had a career day against the Utes.
The question now is whether the Horned Frogs will find a way to make it to the title game?
-A few weeks ago, I stated that I was not going to complain and enjoy the “Les Miles Experience.”
I didn’t think that the enjoyment may lead us to seeing LSU make an appearance in the national title game.
The Tigers may not even make the SEC title game and can still lose to Ole Miss or Arkansas, but you have to give Miles credit for leading his squad to a victory over Alabama and being one step closer to securing a slot in a BCS bowl.
LSU actually had a good offensive day between their two quarterbacks and they will definitely need it against Arkansas in two weeks.
-Who are the seven people in the AP poll who still show stubborn traits by voting Boise State #1 in their poll?
-Michigan is bowl eligible. It’s a sad day when Wolverines’ fans are excited about being bowl eligible.
I still think that Rich Rodriguez can do a good job in Ann Arbor but the defense is terrible. I don’t understand how Rodriguez thought that Greg Robinson would be a good defensive coordinator. When Robinson was fired from Texas for having a bad defense for the Longhorns, they played for the national title later. He stunk in Austin and is bad in Michigan.
If they had a competent defense, the Wolverines would be on eight wins right now.
-If Stanford ends up getting left out of a BCS bowl while a team from the Big East like Pitt goes to the Fiesta Bowl, that’s a joke and further proof that the system doesn’t work.
-Congrats to Joe Paterno for getting to 400 wins. He’s going to be the last Division 1 coach to ever reach that mark. Its like Cy Young’s 511 wins in professional baseball. No one is going to get close to it.
Hopefully this will be Paterno’s last season because the time has come for him and especially the school to move on.
-East Carolina gave up 76 points to Navy. Your defense shouldn’t give up that many points in a month, let alone a game.
-I always go for the private schools in BCS conferences outside of Duke because its Duke, so it hurt the rooting heart to see Wake Forest struggle this season and Northwestern drop a 21-point lead at Penn State this week.
Stanford is doing its thing but I really wanted to see Baylor make the Big 12 title game. The Bears controlled their own destiny until Saturday when it went down to Oklahoma State, 55-28. The score was 28-0 in the second quarter for the Cowboys.
Baylor has still had an excellent season but it isn’t often when Texas is struggling like this and Oklahoma is vulnerable. The Bears may not have an opportunity like this for another 10 years.
-Was South Carolina sandbagging before its big contest against Florida for ownership of the SEC East? If not, that performance against Arkansas was borderline pathetic. Just when you think that the Gamecocks are ready to make the next step as a program, things like the Arkansas contest happens.
-As much flack as the Big East has taken, and deservedly so, have you seen the ACC Atlantic Division? N.C. State, Maryland and Florida State each had a chance to take the lead in the conference but each one lost. The Wolfpack blew a ten-point road lead to Clemson, Maryland lost a winnable game at Miami and the frickin Seminoles lost at home to North Carolina. Can we just pencil in Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl and get this over with?
-Want to guess which team based in the state of Florida has its highest ranking? If you said Central Florida, give yourself a prize.
-If Texas (4-5) can’t win two more games out of three against Oklahoma State, Florida International or Texas A&M, the Longhorns won’t go bowling. When’s the last time a team went from national title game-appearance to losing record the next year?
-I’ve waited this long to mention the Cam Newton situation because you can’t rush to judgment on this issue. My nephew plays high school football with Division 1 recruits. I could be considered an associate who has committed to an ACC school.
The Cam Newton situation for me would be going to an SEC school behind my nephew’s friend’s back and telling them that it will cost the school an amount of money to sign the recruit to the school.
Because of that, I’m holding my ultimate conclusions until another time.
Those are my thoughts, what about yours?
