On to the picks (home team in CAPS)
ST. LOUIS (-1) Kansas City: The Chiefs looked uninspired in their game last week at San Diego without Matt Cassel so I’ll take the home team.
Houston (+1.5) TENNESSEE: I do believe that it was Randy Moss who called the Nashville sports talk show to criticize Jeff Fisher. Its been a rough year for the future Hall of Famer. The Titans have mailed this season and despite the terrible way that the Texans lost their game to Baltimore on Monday, they’re still better than Tennessee.
Jacksonville (+4.5) INDIANAPOLIS: This has been an off year for Peyton Manning and I’m surprised by the lack of criticism that he’s received for it. I guess having ten excellent years built in helps ease the negativity. Seeing how Brett Farve has struggled with the end of his career, I’m intrigued by how Manning will handle the end of his career because he’s played at a high level for so long in an isolated environment in Indianapolis similar to Farve had in Green Bay. I don’t think Manning would play for another franchise and would just retire but you never know.
Arizona (+2.5) CAROLINA: I know I’m violating one of my major betting mantras, “never bet for a west coast team traveling east and playing in the early game on Sunday,” but the Panthers are terrible.
Cleveland (+1) CINCINNATI: Have you seen the Bengals play lately? Why are they the favorites?
Buffalo (+5.5) MIAMI: The Dolphins still win the contest.
I was watching the Miami Heat and New York Knicks contest on Friday night and was actually disappointed in one aspect of the contest.
I was bummed that LeBron James decided to not play in a major basketball market so that he could have the atmosphere he had at Madison Square Garden for all of his home games.
The Garden had a buzz and excitement that he’s never going to experience in Miami. That’s sports community doesn’t care about basketball in the same way that New York, Chicago, Boston or even Los Angeles would with the Clippers if James signed with them.
Philadelphia (+2.5) NY GIANTS: I hope I’m wrong with this pick as a Giants fan but the Eagles have owned them recently.
DALLAS (-7) Washington: Rex Grossman…seriously Mike Shannahan…Rex Grossman?
Detroit (+5.5) TAMPA: The Bucs are breaking down with injuries and the Lions are primed to win one of these close contests.
New Orleans (+1.5) BALTIMORE: The Saints are the most dangerous team in the NFC and maybe the entire NFL that’s a championship contender that no one is talking about. A win at Baltimore would change that.
Atlanta (-6) SEATTLE: The Seahawks are terrible
PITTSBURGH (-5.5) New York Jets: The collapse of the Jets has begun…
OAKLAND (-7) Denver: Why the Broncos aren’t starting Tim Tebow to see what they have is beyond my understanding…
NEW ENGLAND (-14) Green Bay: I’m banking on Aaron Rodgers not playing and the Patriots being in “running up the score” mode, similar to the 2007 season when they went 18-1.
MINNESOTA (+6.5) Chicago: I think this will be a low-scoring game and that point spread will be difficult to cover for the Bears.
Last week: 9-7-0
Season: 114-88-3
Those are my thoughts, what are yours?
