Time to preview UFC 152
Jon Jones vs. Vitor Belfort: It has been an interesting few weeks for Jones who finally gets to defend his title on Saturday against Belfort. Jones was supposed to fight Dan Henderson a few weeks ago but the former Strikeforce and Pride champion suffered the knee injury heard around the world that forced the contest to be cancelled. Chael Sonnen stepped up to fight Jones but the UFC champion declined the contest due to short notice and caused a polarized reaction throughout the mixed martial arts community, including UFC president Dana White who expressed his disapproval of Jones’ handling fo the situation. Furthermore, Lyoto Machida declined his title fight opportunity which has made Belfort the contender by default.
Belfort has had a solid MMA career and has won the UFC light heavyweight himself years ago and still possesses one of the top striking attacks in the division, even though he’s been fighting as a middleweight the last few years.
Jones has used his striking skills the past few fights to dictate the pace of the fight using his large reach advantage. Expect the same during this fight accept Jones will implement more takedowns and gain the victory.
Prediction: Jones by TKO 3rd round
Demetrious Johnson vs. Joseph Benavidez: The winner of this contest will be the inaugural UFC flyweight champion and the two veterans will come out aggressive to establish their pace. Johnson is the better striker but Benavidez will take advantage of his strength and wrestling skills to earn the title.
Prediction: Benavidez by decision
Here are the rest of my picks:
Brian Stann over Michael Bisping by decision
Matt Hamill over Roger Hollett by 3rd round TKO
Cub Swanson over Charles Oliveira by decision
