The SEC has 10 teams in the 2014 NCAA Baseball Tournament field, which was announced on Monday. The 10 teams are the most ever for a single conference in the history of the tournament.
Leading the way is SEC regular season champion Florida, which earned the number two national seed. The Gators will host a regional in Gainesville, where they will meet College of Charleston. If the Gators win their regional, they would host the Super Regional the following weekend.
LSU earned the number eight national seed, and the Tigers will host their regional in Baton Rouge. LSU opens play against Southeastern Louisiana on Friday.
Three other SEC teams will host regionals. Vanderbilt will face Xavier in the opening game of the Nashville Regional. Ole Miss hosts its regional in Oxford, where the Rebels will meet Jacksonville State in the opening game. And South Carolina hosts a regional in Columbia, where the Gamecocks will meet Campbell in round one.
Five SEC teams will go on the road to begin NCAA Tournament. Arkansas is seeded second in the Charlottesville Regional, where they will meet Liberty in the first round game.
Kentucky will travel a short distance to the Louisville Regional. The Wildcats, who are seeded second in the region, face Kansas in Friday’s opener in the Derby City.
Alabama earned the second seed in the Tallahassee Regional. The Tide opens play on Friday against the region’s third seed, Kennesaw State.
Mississippi State will be the second seed in the Lafayette Regional. The Bulldogs meet San Diego State in Friday’s opener.
Texas A&M will see a familiar face in the opening game of the Houston Regional. The Aggies, seeded third in the region, will face intrastate rival Texas in round one.
