Maryland clinched the program’s first ever regional title and advanced to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament on June 1 with a 10-1 victory over South Carolina at Carolina Stadium in the Columbia Regional final.

Entering the weekend, Maryland (39-21) had only one win in three all-time NCAA Tournament appearances. But in Columbia, the Terps completed a three-game sweep of the regional dispatching of the top-seeded Gamecocks on consecutive nights and eliminating Carolina from a home regional for the first time since 1976.

Maryland will now travel to Charlottesville and meet fellow ACC member Viirginia in the Super Regional for the right to reach the College World Series for the first time in program history.

Virginia (47-13) reached the Super Regional for the fifth time in the last six seasons after defeating Arkansas 9-2 on June 1. Virginia allowed just three runs in the NCAA Regional. The Cavaliers now owns five regional championships (2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014), winning four of those in Charlottesville. Virginia will be looking for its third trip to the College World Series, last advancing to Omaha in 2011.

Future ACC member Louisville (48-15) has also advanced to the Super Regionals, defeating Kentucky on June 1 to win its home regional. The Cardinals will now host upstart Kennesaw State (40-22) out of the Atlantic Sun who won the Tallahassee Region which included two wins over Alabama.
