Atlanta Dream center Erika de Souza has been named the WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It marks the first Player of the Week award for de Souza during her career.
During a pair of impressive victories last week, de Souza averaged 23.5 points on 66.7 percent field goal shooting, and added 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. She was also a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line in the two victories.
On June 3 during a 93-85 victory over Los Angeles, de Souza tied her career high with 27 points, sinking 13-of-18 shots, added 11 rebounds for a double-double, and swatted two shots. She then collected 20 points, eight boards, four assists and two steals as Atlanta (5-3) beat Chicago by a franchise-record 38 points (97-59) on June 7 to move into a tie for first place in the Eastern Conference.
De Souza currently leads lead the league in field goal percentage (.670) and is the only player in the WNBA to rank in the top six in scoring (18.5 – sixth), rebounding (9.5 – fifth) and blocks (1.4 – fourth). She has totaled at least 14 points and eight rebounds in every game this season for the Dream.
