de Sousa named to All-Star team

Center Erika de Souza has been named a reserve for the Eastern Conference for Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star 2014, the league office announced Tuesday evening. It will be the third All-Star appearance for de Souza, and second in as many years.

The Dream will be well represented at the All-Star game, with de Souza joining an East team that will include starters Angel McCoughtry and Shoni Schimmel. In addition, Dream head coach Michael Cooper and his staff will coach the Eastern Conference All-Stars by virtue of the Dream’s first-place standing in the East.

This season de Souza is averaging 15.2 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. She ranks third in the WNBA in rebounds and blocks, fourth in field goal percentage (.578) and 10th in scoring. Her six double-doubles ranks tied for eighth in the league, and she was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played June 2-8.

The 6-5 de Souza, who is the only player remaining from the Dream’s inaugural season in 2008, is the franchise’s all-time leader in rebounds (1,564), blocked shots (268), field goal percentage (.544) and double-doubles (64).

Milton-Jones to miss rest of 2014 season

Forward Delisha Milton-Jones will miss the remainder of the 2014 season after suffering a ruptured right Achilles tendon, the team announced Wednesday. The injury occurred during the first half of Atlanta’s victory over the Chicago Sky on Sunday, July 13. She is expected to undergo surgery later this month.

Milton-Jones was acquired via a trade from New York on July 9. She played in two games for the Dream, totaling nine points, three blocks and a pair of rebounds in 23 minutes. The 16-year veteran ranks eighth in WNBA history with 5,533 career points, fifth in rebounds (2,541) and steals (612) and 13th in blocks (337).
