ATLANTA — Georgia State linebacker Joseph Peterson was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference second team, as selected by the league head coaches and selected media members and announced Monday.

The 6-0, 220-pound junior from Dothan, Ala., was an honorable mention All-Sun Belt selection last fall in the Panthers’ first year in the conference.

Peterson, who will change to jersey No. 6 this season, led the team in tackles in each of his first two seasons at Georgia State. In 2013, he set the GSU single-season record with 103 tackles, ranking third in the Sun Belt with 9.4 hits per game.

His career total of 168 tackles stands second in Georgia State in annals.

Georgia State will be the first FBS team to play this fall as the Panthers host Abilene Christian on Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Dome.
