KENNESAW, Ga. – After leading the Kennesaw State soccer team to the Owls’ first win of the 2014 season, sophomore forward Maggie Gaughan was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday (Sept. 2).

It is Gaughan’s first career Player of the Week honor and the first for the Owls this season.

“We are thrilled for Maggie,” said head coach Rob King. “She is developing quickly and has added a level of finishing and composure to her game. Maggie is going to be a handful for defenders this year.”

The Marietta, Ga., native scored both goals for the Owls in a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over South Alabama on Sunday. It was her second two-goal game in her career after putting away a pair of goals in a 2-0 win over Troy last season.

For the week, the sophomore posted five shots, including three on frame and two goals scored for an efficient effort in front of the net. She leads KSU with six points on three goals, equaling her goal total from 2013 in just four matches this season.

Gaughan and the Owls continue tournament play next weekend with a trip to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the Blue Raider Classic, hosted by Middle Tennessee on Sept. 5-7. The Owls will battle Austin Peay on Friday (Sept. 5) at 5 p.m. ET, before facing South Florida on Sunday (Sept. 7) at 2 p.m.
