ATLANTA – Georgia State’s volleyball team will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., this weekend to compete in the Jax Marriott Volleyball Classic, co-hosted by North Florida and Jacksonville.
The Panthers (1-3) will participate in two matches Friday. The first will be against Bethune-Cookman (0-3) at 10 a.m. and the second is set for 7 p.m. against North Florida (0-3). On Saturday, GSU battles Jacksonville (1-2) at 5 p.m. The Classic also includes Florida Atlantic and Coastal Carolina.
Junior Deidra Bohannon leads the team in kills with 53 and is averaging close to four-per-set. Bohannon is coming off a 17-dig performance against Western Carolina which brings her total to 43 on the season and second on the team.
Junior Eliza Zachary continues to top the team’s leader board in kills with 11. Zachary’s .281 hitting percentage is good for second on the team. Freshman Kaylyn Torain leads the team in hitting, sporting a .429 average with eight kills on 14 attempts.
The Panthers have been in close matches this season with four of their 14 sets decided by two points. GSU is 1-3 in those sets.
GSU is 2-0 all-time against both Bethune-Cookman and North Florida. The Panthers have a longer history with former Atlantic-Sun rival Jacksonville and lead that series 11-10.
