DALLAS – The Georgia Tech volleyball team (3-3) fell to No. 24 Oklahoma (18-25, 18-25, 23-25) and swept Texas Southern (25-21, 25-15, 25-15) Saturday to wrap up the SMU Tournament in Moody Coliseum.

Three Yellow Jackets hit in double-digits against the Lady Tigers led by Teegan Van Gunst (12), Courtney Felinski (11) and Annika Van Gunst (10). Freshman Sydney Wilson added seven kills and sophomore London Ackermann anchored the back line with 15 digs.

“It was a good way to finish the weekend,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “We faced some really strong teams that were able to push us, especially in serve receive. It was great to see some players step up, like Courtney and Sydney. I’m looking forward to a strong week of practices and another challenging tournament next weekend in Nashville.”

The Jackets and Lady Tigers battled back-and-forth for the lead in the opening set, which featured 10 tied scores and five lead changes. Tied 18-18, the Jackets went on a four-point run behind the serving of Felinski and a pair of kills by Teegan Van Gunst to grab the momentum and claim the opening frame.

The Jackets remained in control for the rest of the match, holding the Lady Tigers to a -.051 hitting clip in set two and limiting Texas Southern to 10 kills in the third game.

Against the Sooners, Teegan Van Gunst and Felinski led Georgia Tech with nine kills each, while Wilson and Annika Van Gunst each had five.

The match featured 22 tied scores and 13 lead changes at the Jackets battled the Sooners throughout the match. The third set was especially close with 12 tied scores and nine lead changes.

Kills were even at 14 in the third set and the Jackets capitalized on four Sooner serving errors. Tied 20-20, the Sooners used the momentum from three-straight points, 23-20, to capture the set and the match.

Georgia Tech is back in action Sept. 12-13 at the Lipscomb Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
