Release from Georgia Tech athletics:

The Georgia Tech volleyball team played three matches at the Lipscomb Invite in Nashville this past weekend.

Behind sophomore Teegan Van Gunst’s career-high 25 kills, Georgia Tech defeated Lipscomb in five sets, 3-2 (25-20, 14-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-6), Friday night.

Teegan Van Gunst recorded her first double-double of the season, hitting at a .435 clip, and 13 digs. Annika Van Gunst added 12 kills and Courtney Felinski contributed 11. Freshman Sydney Wilson recorded seven kills, and put up two solo blocks and five block assists for the Jackets.

In the Saturday matches, the Yellow Jackets (4-5) fell to Utah, 3-0 (26-28, 17-25, 18-25) and lost its match to ETSU, 3-2 (25-17, 14-25, 23-25, 25-15, 10-15).

“We had two tough matches today,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “Utah is a very physical team and ETSU executed really well at key moments. We need to produce more offensively as a team to balance our offense in order to have a better chance of staying in matches. It has been a challenging three weeks and we are looking forward to being home next weekend.”

In its 3-0 loss to Utah, Georgia Tech was led by sophomore Annika Van Gunst with 11 kills, while Teegan Van Gunst added eight and Felinski contributed seven. Sophomore London Ackermann anchored the back row defense with 12 digs.
