The Georgia Tech volleyball team (7-8, 0-2 ACC) dropped its first two ACC contests this weekend to Louisville and Duke.

Against Louisville, the rallied from a 0-2 deficit to tie the match 2-2, but fell 3-2 (22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 26-24, 10-15) on Sunday at the KFC YUM! Center.

Three Yellow Jackets had double-digit kills led by Annika Van Gunst’s career-high 27 kills on 50 swings for a .460 hitting clip. She added 13 digs for her third double-double of the season. Teegan Van Gunst tallied a double-double with 18 kills and 22 digs, while Courtney Felinski contributed 14 kills.

London Ackermann and Annika Olsen anchored the defense with 21 and 14 digs, respectively, while Rebecca Martin added 10 digs and dished out 56 assists.

Tech recorded 75 kills to Louisville’s 68, but the Cardinals were more efficient with a .286 hitting percentage to Tech’s .259.

Georgia Tech fell at Duke (9-3, 1-0 ACC) in four sets, 3-1 (25-21, 15-25, 20-25, 12-25), Friday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium in both teams’ ACC opener.

Teegan Van Gunst tallied 18 kills to lead Georgia Tech, while Felinski and Annika Van Gunst chipped in nine kills apiece. Olsen anchored the back row and tied her career-high with 19 digs. Duke used a balanced offense with four players in double-digit kills as the Blue Devils out-hit Tech .340 to .188.

“Our offense worked really hard in the first set and we knew Duke was going to dig a lot of balls,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “Duke adjusted to our hitting and we didn’t perform offensively the way we needed to in order to stay in the game.

“I think we side out well and we got little touches on defense, but Duke’s defensive and offensive game took it to another level and we weren’t able to match it.”
