Georgia State football dropped its home contest to Arkansas State 52-10 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Saturday.
The Red Wolves (4-2, 2-0) outgained the Panthers (1-5, 0-3) 618-269 in total yardage in the victory.
“Today, we weren’t able to compete well enough to play with a team like Arkansas State today,” Georgia State coach Trent Miles said. “We didn’t prepare them well enough as a coaching staff.”
Arkansas State scored the first points of the game on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Fredi Knighten to Darion Griswold with 8:32 left in the first quarter. Knighten threw for a game-high 215 yards passing and two touchdowns in the victory.
After a Marcus Caffey fumble, the Red Wolves got a 27-yard field goal by Luke Ferguson to take a 10-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
Michael Gordon’s 50-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter increased Arkansas State’s lead to 17-0. Gordon had a game-high 188 yards rushing and two touchdowns for Arkansas State.
On the final play of the first quarter, Knighten connected with Kenneth Rains for a two-yard touchdown pass, making the score 24-0.
Arkansas State outgained Georgia State 244-19 in first quarter.
The Panthers finally got on the board with 2:22 left in the second quarter on a 26-yard field goal by Wil Lutz, making the score 24-3 in favor of the Red Wolves.
Arkansas State concluded the first half with a 13-yard touchdown rush by Johnston White, taking a 31-3 lead into the locker room.
Georgia State was outgained 335-95 by Arkansas State in the first half.
Touchdown runs by Knighten and Gordon in the third quarter increased the Red Wolves lead to 45-3.
Georgia State’s only other score in the contest was on a two-yard touchdown run by Gerald Howse. He had a team-high 29 yards rushing.
Panthers’ quarterback Nick Arbuckle threw for 162 yards.
