Release from Georgia State Athletics:

ATLANTA – Junior Natalia Nieto was named Setter of the Week by the Sun Belt Conference on Monday after tallying 89 assists in Georgia State’s two contests. She helped GSU extend its winning streak to three matches with a 2-0 weekend.

Nieto moved into sixth place on GSU’s all-time career assists list with her 50-assist performance in Georgia State’s 3-1 win at home against UL Lafayette. It was her second time finding the 50-assist mark this season. Nieto spread out the offense and set a beautiful game, leading to five Panthers getting nine or more kills.

After averaging 12.5 assists per set on Friday, the junior averaged 13 on Saturday in the team’s 3-0 sweep at Troy. She also added a season-high four kills in the win. Her 39 assists on Saturday gives her 2,276 for her career.

A native of Puerto Rico, Nieto led the team in assists in both her freshman and sophomore years and is the current leader this season with 678. This is the first conference Player of the Week Award for Georgia State’s volleyball team this season.
