Release from Kennesaw State Athletics:
Kennesaw State senior Jimmy Beck and sophomore Teremoana Beaucousin are ranked among the top 15 in the fall Palmer Cup rankings that were released by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Wednesday (Nov. 19).
Beck is ranked No. 12 among United States collegiate players while Beaucousin in No. 15 among European collegians.
Utilizing Golfstat’s NCAA Player Rankings, the Palmer Cup Ranking awards bonus points for wins and high finishes and a negative bonus for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength-of-schedule component.
The top six golfers from the final spring ranking from both the United States and Europe, along with four coaches’ picks from each side will be among a group of 10 players from each team to compete in the Palmer Cup at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois June 12-14.
“I am thrilled that we have two players who are well positioned in the Palmer Cup rankings after the fall season,” head coach Jay Moseley said. The Palmer Cup is an incredible opportunity to play team golf with the best amateurs in the world and it would be great to have another Owl(s) play in this event after Jeff Karlsson competed in 2011.”
The Palmer Cup, which was started in 1997, is an event that brings together the top 10 collegiate players in the United States against their counterparts from Europe in a Ryder Cup-style format.
Beck was the Owls’ top individual during the fall, posting a 70.58 stroke average while recording four top 10 finishes in four events. He is currently ranked No. 12 nationally in the Golfstat Cup Standings and No. 17 nationally by Golfweek. His No. 12 ranking in Golfstat is the second-highest in program history, trailing on Jeff Karlsson, who concluded the 2010-11 season at No. 8 en route to earning All-America honors.
Beaucousin, the reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Year, ranks second on Kennesaw State with a 71.45 scoring average in four tournaments and has recorded three top 20 finishes, including two Top 10s.
“Jimmy and Teremoana have proved that they can compete with the best players in college golf and I would not be surprised at all to see them continue to climb in the Palmer Cup rankings in the spring,” Moseley said.
Beck and Beaucousin are attempting to join Karlsson as individuals to represent Kennesaw State in the Palmer Cup. Karlsson was a member of the 2011 European team.
The Owls are coming off an impressive fall in which they post five top five finishes in five events and claimed team titles at the Rees Jones Invitational and Pinetree Intercollegiate.
Kennesaw State, ranked No. 24 in the GCAA Coaches Poll and Golfweek rankings, and No. 21 by Golfstat, opens its spring schedule on Feb. 23 when it travels to Valencia, Calif. to compete in the Jones Invitational hosted by Pepperdine at the Valencia Country Club.
