Release from Kennesaw State Athletics:
After leading the Kennesaw State women’s basketball team to its best start since the 2007-08 season, junior Jasmine McAllister has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference women’s basketball Newcomer of the Week, it was announced Monday (Nov. 24) by the league office.
“I am extremely excited for Jas to get Newcomer of the Week,” said head coach Nitra Perry. “She is much deserving of this honor. She has been rebounding the heck out of the ball and scoring the ball, but more importantly she has been keeping her teammates up and that is what it is all about. All of our wins have been team wins and she has been a big part of that.”
It is the first such honor for the Memphis native, as well as the first for the 3-1 Owls this season.
McAllister opened last week with her first double-double of the season with a season-high 25 points and 14 rebounds in KSU’s 65-56 win at Tennessee State on Monday. While not reaching double figures against crosstown rival Georgia Tech on Wednesday, she grabbed 13 rebounds against the Yellow Jackets to go with six points, before following that up with her second double-double in the Owls’ dominating 72-51 win at Georgia Southern with 16 points, 13 rebounds and three steals.
For the week, the junior averaged team-highs of 15.7 points and 13.3 rebounds per contest, while shooting at a 47.4 percent clip from the field. McAllister leads the Owls with 14.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game this season.
