Release from Kennesaw State Athletics:
For the fourth-straight week the Kennesaw State women’s basketball team picked up Atlantic Sun Conference weekly honors as junior Jasmine McAllister was named A-Sun Newcomer of the Week, the league announced on Monday (Dec. 15).
It is the third such honor for the Memphis native this season after earning back-to-back Newcomer of the Week accolades on Nov. 24 and Dec. 1. It makes the fourth weekly honor the Owls have collected this season as sophomore Deandrea Sawyers was named Player of the Week last Monday.
“I am so happy for Jasmine,” said head coach Nitra Perry. “She has really been playing her tail off. She has risen to the challenge of every game and has stayed very consistent.”
McAllister’s layup with just two seconds left in overtime sent Kennesaw State to a 67-65 overtime win against Jacksonville State on Saturday (Dec. 13), the fourth-consecutive win for the Owls. Along with the winning basket, McAllister registered her conference-leading sixth double-double of the season with 17 points, on 8-of-14 shooting and with all of her point coming after halftime, to go along with 10 boards, three assists and two steals.
The junior, who also leads the A-Sun in scoring (16.4ppg) and rebounding (11.2rpg), has helped the Owls to the program’s best start in the Division I era and the best start since the 2004-05 season, while also surpassing last season’s win total in just nine games.
