Kennesaw State’s Frye Named A-Sun Newcomer of the Week

After leading the Kennesaw State women’s basketball team to a 61-60 win over Big East foe Xavier last Monday, junior Karly Frye was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced on Monday (Dec. 29).

It is the first such honor for the Chuckey, Tenn., native. It marks the sixth-straight week that the Owls have earned a A-Sun weekly honor with junior Jasmine McAllister taking home newcomer of the week honors three times this season, while senior Kristina Wells and sophomore Deandrea Sawyers have also been named player of the week this season.

“I am thrilled for Karly to get this award,” said head coach Nitra Perry. “She has been putting in a lot of work. Most of the time it is the intangibles that she brings, but she hit some big shots for us in the Xavier game and took care of the ball. She has been a true pleasure to coach.”

Frye had one of her best performances of the season in leading KSU to its seventh-straight win and their 10th of the season, coming within one-point of her season-high with a team-high 12 points against the Musketeers, including a 3-of-4 mark from beyond the arc. She added four rebounds and an assist in 40 minutes of action in the win.

For the season, the Owls’ floor general is averaging 6.4 points, a league-second best 3.6 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game.
