Georgia State’s Ryann Green was named one of 30 candidates today for the 2014-15 Senior CLASS Award for his excellence both on and off the court.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Green, named one of three captains this season, has excelled in his final year with the Panthers. After spending three years as a walk-on, head coach Ron Hunter put him on scholarship for his senior season for many of the same attributes as the Senior CLASS Award.

“I am proud of Ryann for everything he has done for our program and so glad he was recognized in this way,” Hunter said. “The Senior CLASS Award is a special award because it recognizes all of the characteristics of what it takes to be a great all-around student-athlete. Ryann has worked hard in the classroom and on the court to improve, while taking time to help others and represent Georgia State in a positive manner.”

Green has set career-highs in nearly every statistical category this season. He has appeared in all 19 games, making 11 starts, averaging 3.3 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. From nearby College Park, Ga., Green is playing 16.9 minutes per game, triple his average from last season.

He has scored a career-high seven points in three-straight games and finished with a career-high 32 minutes played on Monday night against Arkansas State.

Off the court, Green is working on his degree in finance. He has been a part of two international trips with Georgia State to help distribute shoes with Samaritan’s Feet, most recently this past summer to Costa Rica.

Each of the 30 candidate classes (men and women) will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
