Release from Georgia State Athletics:
After combining to lead Georgia State in every hitting category last season, the dynamic offensive duo of Taylor Anderson and Lauren Coleman were named to the preseason all-conference team.
The Panthers were tabbed to finish third behind only defending Sun Belt champions and preseason No. 9 UL Lafayette and preseason No. 23 South Alabama. GSU finished with 57 points and were nine points clear of fourth-place Texas State.
A junior shortstop from McDonough, Ga., Anderson was selected to the NFCA South All-Region third team and received two Sun Belt Player-of-the-Week awards after leading the Panthers in runs scored, triples, home runs and slugging percentage in 2014.
Coleman, a first baseman from of Marietta, Ga., was also a third team NFCA South All-Region selection in addition to being named to the All-Sun Belt first team. The senior led the team in batting average, RBI, doubles, walks and on-base percentage en route to earning two Sun Belt Player-of-the-Week awards.
Georgia State opens the season at preseason No. 20 Auburn in the opening game of the Tiger Invitational on Feb. 12. The Panthers will also face Winthrop, Ball State and Eastern Illinois as part of the tournament.
Over the course of the 2015 schedule, GSU will play 12 games against opponents ranked in the NFCA Preseason Top 25, including seven against teams currently ranked in the top 12.
