Release from Kennesaw State Athletics:
After making a huge impact on the Kennesaw State volleyball team during her freshman season, Anaiah Boyer will travel to Colorado Springs, Colorado for the U.S. Women’s National Team Open Tryouts from Friday, February 20 to Sunday, February 22.
“We’re super excited to be able to have Anaiah travel out to Colorado Springs and represent Kennesaw State Volleyball into what’s going to be an incredibly competitive and high level environment for three days,” head coach Keith Schunzel said. “We want to thank all of the KSU administration for helping to make this trip possible.”
Boyer will join 232 athletes from 90 different colleges and universities during the three days at the tryout. Three-time Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer Karch Kiraly and the U.S. Women’s National Team staff.
“I’m very excited and surprisingly not very nervous,” Boyer said. “I can’t wait to be in a gym full of some of the best volleyball players out there and get the chance to compete for three days straight, and hopefully get the chance to compete on one of the summer teams in June.”
The tryouts are held for spots on the U.S. Women’s National team, U.S. Collegiate National Teams program and the U.S. Junior National Team.
In her first season on campus, Boyer was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman team as she finished second on the team in kills (256) and digs (235) and third on the team in blocks (45.0). She led the team with eight double-doubles and seven of those came in conference matches.
“Anaiah had a very good freshman season, however we know, and more importantly Anaiah knows, that she is just starting to scratch the surface of her potential,” Schunzel said. “Since the beginning of spring training, Anaiah (as well as the rest of our team) has been training exceptionally hard and improving quite a bit. Allowing Anaiah to see and play with many of the best players in the country this weekend will be another great opportunity for her to grow, to continue to improve and help take her game to new levels.”
