Georgia State Softball’s Callie Alford Named CSM.com Sun Belt Player of the Week

After finishing the week with four home runs and 10 RBI, senior Callie Alford has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com. Her success at the plate helped the 7-2 Panthers to a 4-1 record on the week.

In a doubleheader against Savannah State on Friday, Feb. 20, Alford hit two homers and one double while driving in four and scoring three times. In Game 1, the senior from Conyers, Ga. hit a solo home run before blasting another homer and driving in three in GSU’s victory in Game 2.

The next day Alford continued her hot streak at the plate in a pair of wins over Mount St. Mary’s and Presbyterian. She finished with six RBI while going 4-for-8 at the plate with two homers and a double. Against the Mountaineers alone she drove in four and scored twice with a three-run home run.

Alford is first on the team with four home runs and 14 RBI this season. She and her teammates return to the field Friday at 4 p.m.against FGCU in GSU’s first game of the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
