Release from Georgia Tech Athletics:

Georgia Tech head football coach Paul Johnson was named Coach of the Year Thursday night by the Atlanta Sports Council. Johnson was honored during the 2015 Atlanta Sports Awards held at The Fox Theatre.

Johnson was one of three finalists for the Coach of the Year presented by The Home Depot. The award is given annually to an Atlanta high school, collegiate or professional coach whose dedication and commitment to coaching excellence is fostered in the lives of his/her athletes both on and off the field.

In his seventh year at Georgia Tech, Johnson led the Yellow Jackets to an 11-3 record and a 2014 Capital One Orange Bowl win over Mississippi State. Johnson was named 2014 ACC Coach of the Year. The Jackets, who led the nation with a school-record 342.1 rushing yards per game in 2014, finished the season ranked in the top 10 for the first time since 1990.

Under Johnson, Tech’s Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores have risen every year.
