Release from Kennesaw State Athletics:

After leading the Kennesaw State softball team over the past week, junior Kara Chambers earned her first career Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honor, the league announced on Monday (March 9).

“We are all very proud to see Kara recognized as Player of the Week,” said interim head coach Tory Acheson. “Our team had a great week and Kara was a big part of the success we achieved. It is nice to see our hard work paying dividends.”

Chambers was a spark plug for the Owls, leading KSU to a 4-2 record on the week, including a 4-1 mark in the Owls Invitational this weekend. She paced the Owl attack with a .412 batting average and seven hits, with four of those hits going for extra bases with a triple, a double and two home runs. She also registered a .941 slugging percentage to go along with seven runs and five RBI, while proving tough to handle on the base paths as she went 4-of-5 in stolen base attempts.

The Kennesaw, Ga., native saved her best for the last two games of the weekend with a home run each against Big 10 foe Indiana and Eastern Illinois, while also going 3-of-5 with five runs and three RBI on the day.

For the season, Chambers leads the team with 21 RBI, 20 runs and seven doubles, while also being the co-leader with five homers and ranking second with a .381 batting average and 24 hits.
