georgia state logoRelease from Georgia State Athletics:

Georgia State head coach Trent Miles has completed his coaching staff with the hiring of Tony Samuel, the former head coach at New Mexico State and Southeast Missouri State, and Eric Lewis, a former defensive coordinator at two schools who also has National Football League experience.

Samuel will coach the Panthers’ outside linebackers and Lewis will serve as the secondary coach.

“These are two excellent men who are great role models and will bring an abundance of knowledge and experience to help our young men get better,” Miles said.

“To be able to add a former head coach like Tony Samuel to your staff is a great benefit because he can bring different thoughts and experiences,” Miles said. “Eric is a bright young guy from such a tremendous football background.”

With these additions, Georgia State now has eight coaches with previous head coaching or coordinator experience at the FBS or FCS level, along with Miles, Jeff Jagodzinski, Tim Lappano, Harold Etheridge, Luke Huard and Jesse Minter. Lewis is one of four Panther coaches with NFL experience, joining Jagodzinski, Lappano and Miles.

Miles will serve as the position coach for the running backs.
