Release from Kennesaw State Athletics:

Junior Travis Bergen was tabbed as the Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week after his strong outing on the mound Saturday afternoon against Winthrop University, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon

Bergen took the mound in the second game of the scheduled doubleheader against the Eagles, a team that entered the weekend 11-4. In a tough road atmosphere, the junior lefty tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout to secure the win for the Owls. Bergen fanned a career-high 11 batters throughout the game to earn his third win of the season.

“I am very proud of Bergen’s performance this weekend. He threw the ball extremely well and located his pitches on both sides of the plate,” head coach Mike Sansing said. “It was very impressive to see him maintain his velocity late in the game and I’m very happy to see him get rewarded for his strong outing this weekend.”

Bergen became the first Owl to land A-Sun Pitcher of the Week honors since Stephen Janas on April 22, 2013 as the junior left-hander dominated on Saturday against Winthrop. Bergen struck out a career-best 11 batters in a 4-0 victory as he went the distance for the shutout and his third win of the season. His season ERA of 1.87 ranks fourth in the A-Sun.
