Release from Kennesaw State Athletics:
The Kennesaw State football team held its final scrimmage before playing in the Black and Gold game next Saturday, March 28.
“I thought we came out with more energy than we did last Saturday and then things happened early on, mainly self inflicted, and everything died a little bit,” head coach Brian Bohannon said. “There were some positive things out here today, it’s just overall when you can’t take a snap, you can’t stay onside and you have penalties on two big plays you don’t give yourself a chance. We have to do a better job as a staff and the kids have to do a better job with their accountability. We have to continue to grow as a young football team.”
Led by Shawn Reynolds, the defense came out making plays once again. Early in the scrimmage, Reynolds had some big hits and a nice pass breakup.
“The coaches always preach to us to fly to the ball and make plays, and that’s what helped the defense today,” Reynolds said.
Jake McKenzie saw the majority of the snaps at quarterback and led the offense down for a touchdown on the final drive of the day. After a nice pass to Ryan Godhigh, McKenzie punched the ball in the end zone on a short run.
The Owls will hold two more practices next week before the Black and Gold game in Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
Kennesaw State is preparing for its inaugural season that begins Sept. 3 when the Owls travel to Johnson City, Tenn. to take on East Tennessee State. KSU makes its home debut on Sept. 12 when it hosts Edward Waters at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
