Release from Kenensaw State Athletics:
Junior Hillary Kartman was tabbed the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week after leading the Kennesaw State softball team to back-to-back series wins, the league office announced on Monday (March 23).
“We are really proud of Hillary for being recognized as the Player of the Week,” said interim head coach Tory Acheson. “She was on fire this week and came up big on Sunday. She has made a big impact in a bunch of games this season and I am very appreciative of all her hard work.”
It was Kartman’s first career Player of the Week accolade and the Owls’ second of the season as KSU swept Furman in a Wednesday doubleheader, before earning its first conference series win with a pair of victories at North Florida this weekend.
Kartman led the Owls with a .467 batting average on the week, while also totaling seven hits, including a pair of home runs, six RBI, 13 total bases and scoring three runs. She also posted a .867 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage, while starting all five contests.
The Fort Wayne, Ind., native was a beast against the Paladins, registering a .833 average with five hits, four RBI and two runs between the two games. She continued her strong play with a pair of hits and one run against the Ospreys and drilled the game-winning two-run homer in the Owls’ crucial 5-3 win in Sunday’s rubber match.
For the season, Kartman ranks third on the team with a .307 batting average, while also leading the team with 25 RBI and seven home runs.
