Release from Kennesaw State Athletics:

Jordan Hillyer, who was named Co-Pitcher of the Week in the Atlantic Sun, earned national recognition Monday afternoon as the junior was honored Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week, announced by Collegiate Baseball on Monday afternoon.

“It’s a special award and to see Hillyer get recognized for his outstanding performance on Saturday is great to see,” head coach Mike Sansing said. “With so many great players across the country and tough completion at this level, it was great to see Hillyer’s name among them.

Hillyer controlled Friday (March 20) night’s game from the beginning, throwing 25 of his first 31 pitches for strikes. The righty allowed two hits in the first inning, but did not allow another base hit until the seventh frame.

The Dacula, Georgia native retired 13 of his first 16 batters, including seven strikeouts through six innings of play. In all, Hillyer tossed 8.0 innings on the mound, scattering four hits and struck out a career-high 13 batters.

With the win, Hillyer evened his record at 2-2 in six starts for the Owls. He owns a team-leading 2.34 ERA and leads the Atlantic Sun with 46 strikeouts. Hillyer has worked 34.2 innings on the mound this season, second to only teammate Travis Bergen’s 39.2.
