Georgia State measured in at No. 7 this week, the highest ranking in the sand volleyball program’s three-year history. In addition to the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s poll released on Tuesday, GSU is also ranked No. 7 by DiG Magazine in its latest release.

“We’re very honored that other coaches are recognizing the work that our student-athletes are putting into the game,” head coach Beth Van Fleet said. “The competition across the country just keeps increasing and we’re working hard to never stop improving.”

The Panthers are 12-1 this season and are coming off a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, S.C. Georgia State faced then No. 4 Florida State on Sunday and beat the Seminoles for the first time in what was the third meeting between the two sides. The Panthers finished the weekend with a 5-0 sweep of Carson-Newman. GSU has six 5-0 wins in 2015 after having five total in the first two seasons combined.

Georgia State cracked the AVCA poll for the first time last season and rose as high as No. 8 before finishing the season at No. 10. GSU was ranked in this year’s AVCA preseason poll at No. 10 as well. After beginning the season ranked No. 11 by DiG Magazine, the Panthers also come in at No. 7 in their poll released on Monday. Southern California owns the top spot in both polls.

Georgia State competes in Charleston, S.C. this weekend against Tulane, College of Charleston, Stetson and Jacksonville. The Panthers return home for the Southeast Sand Slam on April 3 and 4 at the GSU Sand Courts.
