Georgia State’s sand volleyball team pushed its win streak to 10 with a pair of 4-1 victories over Stetson and Jacksonville Sunday at the College of Charleston Tournament in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
No. 7 Georgia State (16-1) started the day against Stetson (14-2), getting wins at Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 and ending the Hatters’ 11-match win streak. Nina Interwies and Kate Rawls won in straight sets at No. 2 and Sara Olivova and Jansen Button did the same at No. 3. Alexis Townsend and Jessica Fourspring won the first set at No. 5, fell 23-21 in Set 2, but regrouped to win Set 3 15-11. Stetson’s lone win came at the top spot as Majda Dostalova and Milani Pickering were defeated in three sets.
The Panthers took on Jacksonville (5-10) in the afternoon and once again won the bottom four matches. In the second match of the day, Rawls teamed up with Sarah Agnew and the pair won in three sets at No. 2. Interwies and Delaney Rohan won 21-10, 21-7 at No. 3 and Olivova and Button won in straight sets at No. 4. Fourspring and Townsend closed out the lineup with a 21-12, 21-16 win at No. 5. Pickering and Dostalova fell 16-21, 21-19, 15-7 in the top match.
The Panthers bring their win streak home this week to host the Southeast Sand Slam at the GSU Sand Courts. GSU plays UAB and College of Charleston on April 3 and there will be a pairs tournament beginning on Friday and finishing April 4.
