The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission added five catchers to the official watch list for the 2015 Johnny Bench Award, presented by Baseball Savings. Brennan Morgan was among the five that was most recently added to the prestigious award.

Morgan is among 80 catchers from across the country who is nominated on the official watch list for the 2015 award, given annually to the top division one collegiate catcher.

Morgan, a 6-4 junior from Peachtree, Georgia, joined the Owls in 2013 and has taken over the primary role behind the dish in 2015. He is currently hitting .274 with seven doubles, one triple and three home runs. He has 17 runs batted in to rank third on the team.

The watch list will be updated until May 4 to include other candidate. The list will be narrowed to the semifinalists on May 14 and ballots will be mailed to the national voting panel at the end of May to determine three finalists. The three finalists will be invited to Wichita, Kansas and the winner will be announced during the 18th Annual Greater Wichita sports Banquet on June 25.

The award is named in honor of Bench, the former Cincinnati Reds great and Hall of Fame member who was a two-time National League Most Valuable Player (1970 and 1972), World Series MVP (1976), 14-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner.
