Release from Georgia State Athletics:
After blasting five home runs in six games, sophomore Megan Litumbe was named Sun Belt Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
The Grayson, Ga. native went 8-for-14 at the plate for an average of .571. The right fielder also scored seven runs, drove in nine more and drew six walks as Georgia State went 5-1 during the week. She finished with a 1.643 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage. Litumbe is now second in the Sun Belt with a team-high 17 homers this season which ties the Georgia State single-season record.
In Game 2 against Tennessee Tech, she blasted two home runs, drew two walks, scored a career high four times and drove in three in the Panthers 12-1 run-rule win. Litumbe then hit two home runs, scored twice and finished with three RBI in GSU’s 12-4 road victory over Kennesaw State. She could have had a third homer but was robbed by a great leaping catch in center.
In a three-game Sun Belt series over the weekend against Appalachian State, she finished with three hits, including one homer to tie the single-season record. Litumbe also scored once and drove in three as the Panthers won the series.
The sophomore is second on the team in batting average (.375) and RBI (45) this season and has already establish new career highs in five offensive categories.
