Georgia State catcher Joey Roach was named Thursday to the Capital One Academic All-District IV baseball team, announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Roach, who maintains a 3.92 grade-point average while majoring in actuarial science, is now eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America team.
The left-handed hitter is batting .324 with seven homers and 37 RBI, which ranks fifth in the Sun Belt Conference. He has thrown out 20 runners attempting to steal (35 percent), picked off three others, has a .990 fielding percentage and has been an iron man behind the plate, catching nearly every game.
A native of Holly Springs, N.C., Roach is a two-time all-conference honoree, including first-team All-Sun Belt honors in 2014, and a two-time member of the Johnny Bench Award Watch List.
Named to the Georgia State President’s List or Dean’s List every semester. He is active in community service and serves on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
