Georgia State Softball’s Callie Alford Named Senior CLASS Award Second-Team All-American

For her excellence both on and off the field, Georgia State softball player Callie Alford was recognized as a 2015 Senior CLASS Award Second-Team All-American, the presenting organization announced Wednesday, May 27.

Alford was an undisputed leader both on and off the field in her Georgia State career. This was most evident when she was elected team captain ahead of her senior season. She also served on GSU’s leadership council, and excelled in her final year with the Panthers.

This season, the third baseman set career highs in batting average, hits, runs scored, RBI and home runs while breaking the GSU career records for home runs and RBI. Alford also finished her career third in walks (103), tied for third in runs scored (148) and doubles (43), fifth in career hits (220) and tied for seventh in batting average (.324).

Alford was a first-team All-Sun Belt selection after finishing second in hits, third in runs scored and fifth in RBI in the conference standings. The two-time all-region selection added a third honor to her resume after being voted to the NFCA South All-Region third team this year.

In May, Alford graduated with a degree in finance and a minor in speech. She received an academic award after each of her eight semesters at Georgia State, including two President’s List and five Dean’s List honors. As a senior, Alford served as a team representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and she has also worked with the Miracle League, her local soup kitchen, the Salvation Army, Goodwill and Big Brother Big Sister.
