Release from Georgia Athletics:

Georgia pitcher Ryan Lawlor has been selected by the Atlanta Braves in the eighth round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.

As a junior in 2015, Lawlor posted a 5-7 record and 3.67 ERA in 14 appearances, all starts. He pitched 73.2 innings with 84 strikeouts, both team-highs, and walked only 33. Lawlor, a 6-1, 180-pound native of Savannah, Ga., registered wins over No. 11 Florida State, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and Eastern Illinois this past season for the Bulldogs. In his two-year Bulldog career, he is 9-13 with a 3.96 ERA in 28 games, all starts.

Georgia has had a string of 42 straight seasons with at least one player signing a professional contract. A total of 37 former Bulldogs have reached the Major Leagues.

Also earlier Tuesday, a pair of Bulldog signees were selected in the draft. Pitcher Dakota Chalmers (North Forsyth HS, Gainesville, Ga.) was a third round pick of Oakland while outfielder Chad Smith (South Gwinnett HS, Snellville, Ga.) was a fifth round selection of Texas.
