Release from Georgia Athletics:

Georgia sophomore tailback Nick Chubb has been named to the watch list for the 79th annual Maxwell Award, which is given to America’s college player of the year.

Chubb, a 5-10, 220-pound native of Cedartown, Ga., garnered Freshman All-America honors and was named the consensus Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year in 2014.  He racked up 1,547 yards rushing, which is tied for fourth in school history for a single season (Garrison Hearst, 1992), and 14 touchdowns in his first season.

The Bulldogs have had two Maxwell Award winners: Charley Trippi, 1946; Herschel Walker, 1982.

The Bulldogs start their 2015 season versus Louisiana-Monroe in Sanford Stadium at 12 p.m. on Sept. 5.  The SEC Network will televise the matchup.
