Georgia senior Jordan Jenkins and junior Leonard Floyd have been named to the watch list for the 21st annual Bednarik Award, which is given to the college defensive player of the year.
Jenkins, a 6-3, 253-pound native of Hamilton, Ga., is the Bulldogs’ top returning tackler from his outside linebacker position with 70 stops in 2014. He finished with 9.5 tackles for loss and five sacks to go along with a team-high 24 quarterback pressures. In addition, Jenkins forced two fumbles and recovered another pair last season.
Floyd, a 6-4, 231-pound native of Eastman, Ga., topped Georgia with six sacks last year and was fifth on the team with 55 tackles. Also primarily lining up at outside linebacker, Floyd had 8.5 tackles for loss, 17 pressures and three forced fumbles in his second season with the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs have had one Bednarik Award winner with David Pollack earning the 2004 honor.
Georgia sophomore receiver/returner Isaiah McKenzie has been included on the Paul Hornung Award Watch List for being considered one of the nation’s most versatile players.
Current Philadelphia Eagle Brandon Boykin earned the 2011 Hornung Award during his career with the Bulldogs.
McKenzie, a 5-8, 170-pound native of Miami, Fla., earned the UGA Newcomer of the Year for his production on offense and on special teams last season. He finished with six catches for 67 yards to go along with seven carries for 83 yards.
On special teams, McKenzie led Georgia in both punt returns with 19 for 230 yards (12.1 average) and in kickoff returns with 11 for 309 yards (28.1 average). He finished with three returns for touchdowns (two punts, one kickoff) and became the first Bulldog and 12th player in NCAA FBS history to return a kickoff and a punt for a score in the same game during the matchup versus Kentucky.
The Bulldogs start their 2015 season versus Louisiana-Monroe in Sanford Stadium at 12 p.m. on Sept. 5.
