Release from Georgia State Athletics:
After two seasons with Georgia State, Curtis Washington has signed a contract to play professionally for Instituto, a first division team in Cordoba, Argentina.
Washington, who played professionally in Hong Kong in late spring and early summer, is the third Panther to sign a pro contact this summer.
As a senior, Washington averaged 5.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, shooting 56.0 percent from the floor and 77.8 percent from the free throw line. He added 44 blocked shots, which ranked No. 142 in the nation with a 1.3 bpg average, No. 4 in the Sun Belt.
With Washington’s help, the Panthers won 25 games in each of his two seasons, one of just 20 programs in the country to accomplish the feat.
“I am glad that Curtis will be able to continue is basketball career,” head coach Ron Hunter said. “Curtis was a big part of our success the last two seasons and stepped up big when it mattered down the stretch. I wish him all the best of luck in Argentina and know he has the ability to do great things.”
With an NCAA tournament bid on the line against Georgia Southern last March, Washington stepped up with a season-high 30 minutes played and pulled down eight rebounds as the Panthers clinched their first conference tournament title since 2001.
Instituto went an impressive 38-9 last season, including a 25-1 mark at home, winning the Argentinian TNA North title and overall league championship.
Washington was a 2014-15 All-Sun Belt Preseason Third-Team member. He finished his career scoring 431 points, grabbing 343 rebounds and shooting 61.4 percent from the floor. In his two seasons, Georgia State won a pair of Sun Belt regular season titles.
Washington joins R.J. Hunter who was drafted by the Boston Celtics and Ryan Harrow who signed a contract with a team in Greece.
