BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE ANNOUNCES FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Big_south_conference_logoRelease from Big South Conference:

Charleston Southern running back Mike Holloway (Stone Mountain, Ga.) has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Football Offensive Player of the Week, while Presbyterian College defensive back Ed Britt (Greensboro, N.C.) has been selected as the Defensive Player of the Week for games played the fourth week of the regular season.  Monmouth punter/placekicker Matt White (Gibsonia, Pa.) is the Special Teams Player of the Week and Liberty wide receiver B.J. Farrow (Lynchburg, Va.) is The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week.

Holloway rushed 17 times for a career-high 172 yards and three touchdowns in leading Charleston Southern to a 33-20 win at The Citadel.  His 31-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter was the Bucs’ first score of the game.  Holloway’s two second half TDs helped CSU put the game out of reach, including a 73-yard score with 3:54 to play for the final margin.  He averaged 10.1 yards per carry and added two catches for 12 yards.

Britt finished with 13 tackles (10 solo), one tackle-for-loss and recorded both of PC’s takeaways against No. 8/9 Chattanooga.  He stopped two Mocs drives, first with an interception in PC territory and then a fumble recovery on Chattanooga’s side of the field.  Britt’s TFL was a four-yard loss on a 3rd-and-4 situation that forced a punt.

White averaged 49.8 yards on four punts and was perfect on his five placekicks (one field goal, four PATs) to finish with seven points at No. 16/16 Fordham.  His 35-yard field goal gave the Hawks their first points of the game, while his punts went for 54, 36, 42 and 67 yards on the afternoon.

Farrow, who entered the weekend with six catches for 96 yards in three games, had game highs of eight receptions and 101 yards for the Flames at Southern Illinois.  Four of his eight catches were longer than 10 yards, including a 34-yard reception, while seven of his touches went for first downs.
