Big_south_conference_logoRelease from the Big South Conference:

Kennesaw State quarterback Trey White (Atlanta, Ga.) has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Football Offensive Player of the Week, while Charleston Southern linebacker Solomon Brown (Central, S.C.) has been selected as the Defensive Player of the Week for games played the seventh week of the regular season.  Monmouth placekicker/punter Matt White (Gibsonia, Pa.) is the Special Teams Player of the Week and Kennesaw State kicker Justin Thompson (Evans, Ga.) is The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week.

White rushed for 170 yards and passed for 114 as he engineered the Owls to a 12-7 win over Gardner-Webb in the program’s first-ever conference game.  He was responsible for 16 of KSU’s 20 first downs (10 rushing, six passing) and had 284 of the Owls’ 353 total yards of offense.  White’s performance allowed Kennesaw State to keep the ball for 38:40, and his 39-yard completion to Justin Sumpter late in the fourth quarter led to KSU’s final field goal.

Brown posted eight tackles (six solo), three for loss of 13 yards and two sacks as Charleston Southern shutout Presbyterian in the second half en route to a 10-7 road victory.  He had a sack in each half to end a Blue Hose drive, and was part of a Buc defense that limited PC to 43 total yards, four punts and two interceptions during the final 30 minutes.

White was the hero in Monmouth’s 20-17 overtime win over No. 22/22 Liberty.  He kicked the game-tying field goal — a 35-yarder — as time expired in regulation, then converted a 37-yard field goal in overtime for the win.  White also punted seven times for an average of 36.6 yards, and three of his punts landed inside Liberty’s 20-yard line.

Thompson accounted for all of Kennesaw State’s points in the Owls’ 12-7 win over Gardner-Webb.  He tied the Big South single-game record with four field goals, hitting from 30, 33, 26 and 31 yards.
