Release from Georgia Athletics:
Georgia was predicted to finish fifth in the SEC this season and senior guard Charles Mann was tabbed second-team All-SEC in preseason balloting of selected national and league media. The results were released Wednesday in association with SEC Tipoff ’16, the league’s media day.
The Bulldogs return three starters and nine letterwinners from last year’s squad. Georgia also welcomes five freshmen to this year’s roster.
Last season, Georgia finished 21-12 overall and 11-7 (t-3rd) in the SEC. The Bulldogs earned an NCAA Tournament bid, falling to Michigan State, an eventual Final Four team, in the first round. Georgia is coming off back-to-back 20-win seasons for just the third time in program history and is one of only two league programs to earn a top-4 seed (and a “double-bye”) for each of the past two SEC Tournaments.
Kentucky was the media’s selection as SEC champion, followed by Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, LSU, the Bulldogs, Florida, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama and Missouri. Media ranked the teams 1-14, with 14 points awarded for a first-place vote and descending amounts down to one point for 14th place.
Mann is a 6-5, 215-pound senior from Alpharetta, Ga. Among the league’s active statistical leaders, Mann enters his final campaign in Athens second in career scoring (1,042 points) and first in career assists (308). Last season, he ranked No. 24 in the SEC in scoring (11.2 ppg) and No. 10 in assists (3.6 apg).
Georgia will host Armstrong Atlantic in a preseason exhibition on Friday, Nov. 6, before officially opening the 2015-16 season against Chattanooga on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. at Stegeman Coliseum.
