Release from Georgia State Athletics:
Playing in its seventh five-set contest of the season, Georgia State’s volleyball team came up just short at the Sports Arena Friday night, losing 22-25, 25-9, 21-25, 25-17, 15-8 to UT Arlington.
Georgia State (4-15, 0-9 SBC) found it difficult to stop UT Arlington (14-8, 5-5 SBC) on offense as the Mavericks hit .290 in Set 2, .385 in Set 4 and .269 in the final set. Georgia State looked to Kitan Ajanaku to lead the offense and the redshirt senior did so with 15 kills on .519 hitting. Already best on the team in hitting percentage, Ajanaku raised her season average from .293 to .307.
Senior Gabby Serafin was honored before the match with a game ball for becoming the 10th Panther all-time to reach 1,000 career digs. Serafin responded with a career-high 33 digs and surpassed her 2014 total of 340 digs as she now has 363 in 2015. Two other Panthers also had double-digit digs in Crystal Lee and Kristina Stinson. Lee added 11 digs on offense as well.
Georgia State has competed in seven five-set matches this season, but is only 1-6 in those contests.
