Release from Georgia State Athletics:
After helping Georgia State’s volleyball team to a win in its final match, Sarah Renner was recognized as the Sun Belt Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Renner led GSU to a 3-0 sweep at ULM Sunday afternoon in Louisiana. Renner averaged more than 10 assists per set in both matches this weekend and added eight kills on nine attempts to keep defenses on their feet. Renner’s ability to play defense came into play as well, as the setter tallied 14 digs and two block assists.
Renner’s first start at setter came against Little Rock on Oct. 11. Since then, she has tallied 30 or more assists in all but one match. She has also been helpful on defense, recording 76 digs and 12 blocks over the 10-match stretch. She also has 28 kills on .288 hitting since Oct. 11.
This is the fourth Student-Athlete of the Week award for the Panthers this season. Kristina Stinson won two offensive awards and Gabby Serafin was recognized as the Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week back on Oct. 26.
