Release from USGA:
Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the 2016 U.S. Open Championship on Wednesday, June 8 because he is still rehabilitating from surgery.
Woods, who was fully exempt and is a three-time U.S. Open champion (2000, 2002, 2008), will be replaced in the field by Thitiphun Chuayprakong, of Thailand, the first alternate from the Japan sectional qualifying site.
Chuayprakong, a 23-year-old, shot 66-72–138 at Higashi-Hirono Golf Club on May 23. He is playing in his first U.S. Open.
