General musings on things going on in the sports world:

-We’ll begin coverage of Georgia State football’s upcoming contest against Utah State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl this weekend. After a disappointing campaign last season, the Panthers are back in a bowl game but it does feel like a letdown after ending the season on a losing streak and eliminating itself from Sun Belt championship contention. It will be interesting, especially with the recent defections from the program in the transfer portal, how Georgia State head coach Shawn Elliott will handle and motivate for this contest.

-It was good to be back on Georgia Tech’s campus to see the men’s basketball team earn a home win over Alabama A&M this past weekend. Check our archives for content. We will have more extensive coverage of the Yellow Jackets in the new year when ACC play truly kicks off.

-Respect to the Georgia Tech volleyball season for another NCAA Tournament appearance. Once again, check the archives to view our coverage of the team throughout this past season.

-The NFL season is in-flux as always. I can make a legitimate case for at least seven to nine teams that can win the Super Bowl. Obviously, teams like San Francisco are looking unbeatable but if, and I’m not kidding about the first one, Dallas, Philadelphia, Detroit, Baltimore, Miami, Buffalo, Jacksonville, Cincinnati or even Kansas City win the championship, it wouldn’t be shocking. We’ll have more about this in our preview of this upcoming week.

-Its not far fetched that Draymond Green has played his final contest for the Golden State Warriors. Yes, I know he’s owed a significant amount of money and has multiple years left on his contract but I wouldn’t be surprised if his latest actions on the court including choking Rudy Golbert and punching Jusuf Nurkic are looked at being detrimental to the team, hence cause for elimination from the Warriors. I think the indefinite suspension passed down by the NBA yesterday gives the league and the Warriors time to make an ultimate decision. I’m not saying Green will be kicked out of the league or have his contract voided but his time with Golden State may be over.

-I enjoyed the NBA In-Season Tournament. Was it hokey? Yes. Seeing LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers celebrating a regular-season title like the postseason championship being odd? Sure. However, the games seemed more competitive than normal this time of year, the atmosphere was solid especially in Las Vegas, money was made by all parties involved, so it was a win overall…accept for the color layout of the courts and my initial confusion about the format at the start of the tournament. It wasn’t bad.

-That’s all for now so good fight, good night and be safe.
