Georgia Tech senior offensive guard Shaquille Mason was named to the 2014 All-America First Team by USA TODAY while freshman defensive end KeShun Freeman was one of 27 players named to the 2014 True Freshman All-America Team by 247Sports. Freeman was one of four ACC freshmen honored.
Mason became Georgia Tech’s first first-team All-American since defensive end Derrick Morgan in 2009. He is the 60th first-team All-American in program history and the third under head coach Paul Johnson (Michael Johnson – 2008, Morgan – 2009).
Mason, a 2013 first-team All-ACC selection, was selected second-team All-ACC by both ACSMA and the league’s head coaches in 2014. The Columbia, Tenn., native has been named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week three times this season. He has made 37 consecutive starts, the longest streak by any current Yellow Jackets.
Freshman defensive end KeShun Freeman was one of 27 players named to the 2014 True Freshman All-America Team by 247Sports. Freeman was one of four ACC freshmen honored.
The LaGrange, Ga., product recorded 51 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss (35 yards), 4.5 sacks (23 yards), one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, and one blocked kick in 13 games (11 starts). Freeman led all ACC freshmen in both TFL and sacks.
Freeman was one of four Yellow Jackets that teamed up to block six kicks – tied for the nation’s lead heading into the bowls.
No. 12 Georgia Tech faces No. 7 Mississippi State (10-2) in the 2014 Capital One Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve in Miami. The game kicks at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN at Sun Life Stadium.
