Release from Georgia Athletics:
Georgia’s Mackenzie Engram has been named to the SEC’s All-Freshman team in balloting of league coaches. The annual conference awards for women’s basketball were announced Tuesday by the league office in Birmingham, Ala.
“I think this honor is a reflection of both Mackenzie’s performance and her ability,” head coach Andy Landers said. “The exciting thing about Mackenzie is that the best is yet to come. She will continue to grow and improve, but she’s off to a great start.”
Engram, a 6-2, forward from Powder Springs, Ga., is averaging 7.8 points per game and 4.6 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs this season. She also has 20 blocked shots, tying for team-high honors.
Engram has scored in double figures in nine games, with a career-high 20 points against Coppin State. She has led Georgia offensively in six games, including four contests versus ranked opponents (No. 1 South Carolina, No. 5 Tennessee in Knoxville, No. 6 Tennessee in Athens and No. 10 Texas A&M).
Engram grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds at Ohio State en route to her first career double-double.
Engram is the league-best 31st Lady Bulldog to earn SEC All-Freshman honors since the team’s inception in 1987.
