Big Ten Announces Football Players of the Week

Release from the Big Ten Conference:

Following Big Ten football games on Oct. 29, the offensive, co-defensive and special teams players of the week and freshman of the week in the Big Ten were announced this morning. Below are this week’s honorees:

Offensive Player of the Week
Saquon Barkley, Penn State

So., RB, Coplay, Pa./Whitehall

  • Set career highs with 207 rushing yards and 277 all-purpose yards in Penn State’s victory over Purdue
  • Carried the ball 18 times for an average of 11.5 yards per attempt with two touchdowns, including an 81-yard score
  • Added three catches for 70 yards
  • Claims his second career Offensive Player of the Week award and second of the season
  • Last Penn State Offensive Player of the Week: Saquon Barkley (Oct. 10, 2016)

Co-Defensive Players of the Week
Marcus Oliver, Indiana
Jr., LB, Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton

  • Established career highs with two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss in Indiana’s win over Maryland
  • Recorded his 10th and 11th career forced fumbles to set a new school record
  • Finished with eight tackles, including seven solo stops
  • Earns his first career Defensive Player of the Week honor
  • Last Indiana Defensive Player of the Week: John Pannozzo, (Sept. 5, 2005)

Ryan Connelly, Wisconsin
So., LB, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie

  • Tallied a career-high 11 tackles, including seven solo stops, in Wisconsin’s overtime victory over Nebraska
  • Recorded 2.5 tackles for loss, including one on Nebraska’s lone possession in overtime
  • Added two pass break-ups
  • Claims his first career Defensive Player of the Week honor
  • Last Wisconsin Defensive Player of the Week: Jack Cichy (Oct. 17, 2016)

Special Teams Player of the Week
Kenny Allen, Michigan
Sr., K/P, Fenton, Mich./Fenton

  • Went 3-for-3 on both field goals and extra points in Michigan’s victory at Michigan State
  • Converted field goals from 23, 23 and 45 yards
  • Recorded touchbacks on three of his six kickoffs and averaged 40.7 yards on three punts
  • Earns his first career Special Teams Player of the Week honor
  • Last Michigan Special Teams Player of the Week: Jabrill Peppers (Sept. 19, 2016)

Freshman of the Week
Tyler Natee, Indiana
RB, Euless, Texas/Trinity

  • Set career highs with 18 carries and 111 rushing yards in the Hoosiers’ victory over Maryland
  • Recorded a two-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter
  • Helped Indiana record 414 rushing yards, its most against a Big Ten opponent since 2001
  • Wins his first career weekly award
  • Last Indiana Freshman of the Week: Marcelino Ball (Sept. 12, 2016)
